FEEDBACK: FLCC FLAT WATER MARATHON EVENT – 15 APRIL 2018

It was a beautiful misty warm misty morning on Sunday 15th April 2018 at 08h00 when the paddlers began the 21km FLCC Flat Water Marathon race at Florida which included 3 short portage seconds ……with a few competitive marathon bunches racing well together.
Mariette Zandbergh (WAT) was the first finishing lady of the day as Sub Veteran in 2 hours 17 minutes while Lizeth van der Westhuizen and Shelley Robertson (CEN) finished as 2nd lady finishers and 2nd Sub Veterans in 2:25.
Michael Stewart and his son Liam literally crossed the finish line together in 1 :38 with one second between them, taking the top Sub Master first Under 23 achievement, while the 3rd finisher was Gustav Radloff (CEN) in 1:39 and 12 seconds as 2nd Sub Master.
Nicolas Oldert (Dabs) finished as first Grand Master in 1:40 with Theo Smit a couple of seconds behind him finishing as 2nd GM, while Kobus Filmalter and Caroline (WAT) were the first Veterans and first Mixed double!
Ronald Pronk was the Sub Grand Master of the day as 6th K1 in a time of 1:40: 58 seconds, while senior paddlers Richard Cele and Katiso Hlahatsi (VIC) finished in 1H45 with also one second difference – such exciting close racing finishes!
Pieter Engelbrecht (ERK) was the 3rd Sub Master finisher in 1:45 and Sean van Pletzen (LIK) finished as first Under 18. Peter O Connor (Dabs) was the Great Grand Master representative finishing as 12th K1 in 1:52 while Nick Bradley (VIC) and Vincent Buttrick (ERK) finished in 1:52 and 1:54 respectively as 2nd Vet and 2nd GGM.
Andre Zandberg (WAT) finished in 1:55 as the 4th SM while Chris Visser (Dabs) was the 3rd GM in 1:58. Jaco Lategan (Dabs) finished in 1:58 with Ruan Van Pletzen (LIK) in 2:03 as the first Under 16 and junior
