FEEDBACK REPORT – GAUTENGERS AT 50 MILER – 4 DECEMBER 2016
Umzinyathi Canoe Club hosted the 50 Miler canoe marathon on Sunday 4 December, as a one day event, due to drought and water release issues, in their usual professional manner and the race was greatly enjoyed by all as usual.
Euro Steel’s Sibonelo Khwela, the star of the day, won the race in a time of 2 hours 50 minutes, improving his own seeding before coming up to Gauteng to show his skills off at the FLCC Dusi Seeding race as a seeding guest of honour , with Andy Birkett finishing 2nd just over half a minute later, followed by Thulani Mbanjwa in 3rd.
The first Gauteng finisher was Siseko Ntondini (SOW) in 3 hours 7 minutes as 3rd Under 23, with a seeding of 109.78, with Loveday Zondi (SOW) being the next Gautenger across the finish line in 3 hours 11 minutes as K1 13.
Alex Roberts (Dabs) was the third Gauteng finisher, K1 23, in 3 hours 21 minutes, while Thando Ngamlana (Sow) finished at the bottom of the first page of results, 31st overall, K1 31 Under 23 10th, in 3 hours 30.
Anthony Baird (LOWVELD) earned a podium position, finishing as 2nd Sub Veteran in 3 hours 34, as K1 35, while Kelvin Byres (DABS) was the 2nd Veteran podium finisher, in 3 hours 49, as K1 46 and Michael Stewart (ERK) finished as 2nd Sub Master in 3 hours 51.
We look forward to a good turnout of the top Gauteng paddlers at the next local race on Sunday 11 December, with good high seeding standard!
