SA MARATHON CHAMPIONSHIPS / GAUTENG ACHIEVERS – 15 -17 JUNE 2018 – AT ST FRANCIS BAY
Well done to the Gautengers who flew the flag for Gauteng province and participated in somewhat choppy windy conditions at the beautiful port of St Francis Bay over the past weekend 15 – 17 June 2018……from guppies to the Great Grand masters – superb racing in all categories!

K1 Racing feedback:
In the Senior Men’s race, Gautengers were led by Loveday Zondi (VIC) who finished 7th, followed by Phineas Zulu (Dabs) 8th , Richard Cele (VIC) 9th , Katiso Hlahatsi (VIC) 10th.
Master Classes:
Caroline Filmalter (WAT) was 3rd Veteran Finisher while Sarah Evans won the Sub Master Women’s category finishing 1st (DABS) – and Cally Henderson was the first and only finisher to take on the Great Grand master’s ladies event!
In the Men’s Masters Races – Wayne Jacobs and Alex Roberts achieved the 1st and 2nd position in the Sub Veteran Mens race (Dabs) while Kelvin Byres finished 5th in the Veteran Men’s race, and Kobus Filmalter was the 7th Veteran (Wat). Roy Clegg (VIC) finished 11th and Roger Stubbs (Dabs) 13th.
In the Sub Master Men’s category – Anthony Rowan (Dabs) finished 2nd, with Gustav Radloff (CEN) 3rd, and Wally Fisher (Cen) was 6th finisher. Gunther Grune (CEN) finished 12th in this category.
In the Master Men it was Gustav Smook (Low) and Mark Handley (VIC) who finished 2nd and 3rd…..and in the Sub Grand Master Men, Colin Wilson (Dabs) finished 2nd…..In the Grand Master Men’s race, Pierre van der Merwe (CEN) and Theo Smith (CEN) finished 3rd and 4th. Peter O Connor (Dabs) was the 2nd finisher in the Sub Great Great Grand Master men’s race…. while Brian Longley (Dabs) finished 1st in the Great Great Grand Master Category! And Mike Howard (ERK) was the 3rd place finisher in the Sub GREAT GREAT GREAT Grand Master category!
In the Under 23 Women Morgan Ziervogel (DABS) finished in 3rd place!
Under 14 Girls – 3rd Place Helen jansen van Vuuren (VIC), with Tinyiko Mahwayi (SOW) 4th, and Thembelihle Jokozela (SOW) 5th……
Guppy girls Under 12 – Lydette Opperman (CEN) was the 6th finisher, with Lungile Mahwayi (SOW) 9th.
The Under 10 Guppy Girls : Litha Mazibukwana in 4th (SOW)
Males:
The Under 18/U18 Boys resulted in Gustav Jnr Smook (LOW) finishing as the 8th Under 18, with Zanentlantla Mbala (SOW) 11th, and Benjamin Mntonintshi (SOW) was 15th finisher, while Connor Erwee was the 9th Under 16 finisher.
Under 14 Boys – Finlay Leask (Dabs) brought in a silver 2nd place podium, while Adrian Rodd (Dabs) finished 4th…..Nicholas Erwee (Dabs) finished in 16th with Sean van der Westhuizen (CEN) in 18th.
Under 12 Guppy Boys – 3rd – Theo Dreyer (Dabs) / 4th Nicholas Faure (Dabs) while James Guy Stapylton-Smith (Dabs) and Jordan Klopper (Dabs) finished 10th and 11th, and Alexander Renouprez (Dabs) was the 13th finisher….
The Under 10 Guppy Boys achieved 3rd, 4th, and 5th place – Luke and Matthew Wilson as well as jess Webber (Dabs)…..
The K2 Races we dont seem to have any Senior Men or Women in the results for Gautengers, so starting with the Under 14 girls – Tinyiko Mahwayi and Thembelihle Jokozela (SOW) finished 1st! and Helen Jansen van Vuuren with Sisanda Mthabela (VIC/FLCC) finished 3rd!
In the Under 14 Boys it was Finlay Leask (Dabs) who partnered with Matthew Privett from WP to finish first, and Adrian Rodd with Nicholas Erwee (Dabs) finished 5th.
Sibusiso Chwayi and Zanentlantla Mbala (Sow) finished 3rd in the Under 18 race Gustav Jnr Smook(LOW) partnered with Bartho Visser (WP) to finish 4th , and Benjamin Mntonintshi with Bambo Fanteni (Sow) were the 8th finishers.
Michael Arthur and Wayne Jacobs teamed up to win the Sub Veteran MEN’s race, with Alex Roberts and Ernest van Riet (Dabs/WP) were 2nd and in the Veteran Men’s race – Wally Fisher and Roy Clegg (Cen/VIC) were the 4th team to finish, followed by Kelvin Byres and Malcolm Pitt (Dabs/KZN). Kobus Filmalter and Caroline Filmalter (WAT) finished 7th, as a Mixed Double, with Elton Du Preez and Willem Landman (CEN) in 8th position.
The Sub Master Men’s race was won by Anthony Rowan with Gustav Radloff (Dabs/Cen), while Gustav Smook and Gordon Spalding (Low/EC) finished 2nd in the Masters Men’s race.
In the Sub Grand Master Men, Colin Wilson with Nicolas Oldert (Dabs) were 2nd finishers, and Colin Simpkins (KZN) partnered with Ronald Pronk (CEN) to take the 3rd finish spot.
Theo Smith and Pierre van der Merwe (CEN) finished as the first Grand Master Men…. and in the Sub Great Great Grand Master men, Brian Longley and Peter O Connor (Dabs) took 2nd position, while Mike Howard and Claude Graham finished 3rd in the Great Great Grand master men’s category!
It was certainly tough racing and some challenging conditions however a beautiful scenic area to enjoy the hard challenges! Well done to all who trekked to the Eastern Cape to represent Gauteng!
