GCU SURFSKIs IN DURBAN:
GCU owns and maintains a single and a double surf ski in Durban. These were purchased with assistance from Lotto more than five years ago.
The use of these Surf skis is controlled by the GCU secretary ably supported by Mark Lewin from Point and Marine SLSC.
These skis are intended to give GCU members an opportunity to try Surf ski.
They are intended to be used by competent and experienced paddlers. The idea is that experienced kayak paddlers have an opportunity to try their hand at Surf ski.
All safety precautions MUST be followed. Before trying out on the ocean the GCU of paddler must be very adept at getting back on a surf ski. This skill should be practiced first on flat water at home.
Rental is R150
YOU BREAK IT YOU TAKE IT. Twice these Surf skis have been broken and I am pleased to report that both times the Surf ski was replaced. Once by a SCARC paddler and once by a Dabs paddler.
Unfortunately there has been some abuse where paddlers have used these craft without contacting GCU.
