A few words from Graham Paull, Para-canoeist from Gauteng, at the Duisburg Para Olympic Qualifier event which took place this past week…..
I competed in the world para championships in Duisburg Germany in the the KL1 para category. This was an Olympic qualifier event.
I managed to come 3rd in my heat which sent me through to the semi final. I managed to come second in the semi final which pushed me through to the A final. The A final did not go as planned as I had a really bad start and was playing catch up the whole race. I still managed to come in 7th which we are hoping is enough for me to qualify for Rio but waiting on the official announcement. Over all I am happy with they way things went as we came here with a goal to qualify and it seems that we have managed to do that, I also managed to get another personal best time in the semi so in all it was a successful trip.
