The Non-Stop Dusi 2017
Arranged by the Natal Canoe Club
- Date, time and place
The Non-Stop Dusi trip will take place on Friday 3rd March 2017, starting at Camps Drift, Pietermaritzburg, at 05:15 and finishing at Blue Lagoon, Durban. (Please note the earlier start at 05:15).
- Entry fee
R300.00 per paddler (R600.00 per K2).

Entries on the attached entry form to be faxed/delivered to Mary at 033-3421525 / 086-6660244 by Thursday 2nd March 2017 10:00am and entry fee deposited to the credit of Natal Canoe Club, Nedbank, Hayfields Branch Code 134025, Account Number 1340 277 050, Ref: Non-stop and Paddlers numbers. Please fax deposit slip with your entry. Paddlers indemnity and seconds undertaking must also be faxed.
- Entries
4.1 No logistical assistance is offered by NCC or KNCU and participants are totally dependent upon themselves and their seconds. Participation is entirely at the paddlers own risk.
- In view of the arduous nature of the event and the risks involved the organisers do not encourage participation. It is suggested that only proficient and experienced canoeists who are possessed of an extremely high level of fitness should consider entering.
- No person in the under 18 category will be permitted to participate.
- NCC reserves the right to reject any entry.
- Participants are obliged to provide their own competent seconds upon whom they will be dependant for all assistance during the event. Seconding crews are required to provide all hydration, medical and first aid supplies and boat repair equipment as may be required by their paddlers for the duration of the event.
- Entries close on Thursday 2nd March 2017 at 10:00.
- Under no circumstances will any late entries be accepted.
- Check-in
Paddlers should check in at the Dusi Pavilion at Camps Drift between 17:00 and 19:00 Thursday 2nd March 2017 or between 04:30 and 05:00 on Friday 3rd March 2017. Paddlers will only be allowed to check-in and receive their race packs once all indemnities are signed.
- K1 and K2 race
Entries will be accepted for both the K1 and K2 classes. (K1 entries are not recommended).
- Rules
7.1 Paddlers must go through the check points at Finger Neck, Inanda Dam wall and Pump House Weirs.
7.2 Paddlers will be obliged to withdraw if:-
7.2.1 they do not reach Finger Neck by 09.00
7.2.2 they do not reach the Inanda Dam wall by 14:00
7.2.3 they do not reach Pump House Weir by 17:00
These cut-offs will be strictly enforced.
Paddlers who do not make the cut-offs timeously may not under any circumstances continue paddling.
Cut-off times are according to the actual time specified, not an elapsed time.
7.2.4 there is a final cut-off at the finish at 19:30
7.3 The organisers reserve the right to instruct paddlers to withdraw at any point if in their sole discretion, it is unsafe for paddlers to continue.
7.4 Paddlers must have competent seconds. Sole responsibility for paddlers’ safety and well-being rests with the paddlers and their seconds
7.5 Paddlers shall follow instructions from NCC with regard to any branding and shall follow instructions from any NCC official
7.6 Paddlers must ensure that their boat and equipment are in good order.
- Safety / Risk
8.1 The event is extremely demanding and is raced over dangerous sections of river and through hostile terrain, often at extremely high temperatures. Paddlers will be exposing themselves to risks by entering the event.
8.2 No seconding points, safety personnel, security personnel, marshals, divers or medical facilities will be provided and paddlers entering the event must be entirely self sufficient, and must have a comprehensive team of seconders capable of ensuring their safety and well-being.
8.3. In the event of foot entrapment, injury, snake bite, assault or robbery there will be no assistance provided by the organisers. Paddlers are dependent on their own resources and those of their seconds.
8.4 Medical assistance and first aid is the responsibility of the paddlers themselves and their seconds.
- Seconding
9.1 No seconding tables, safety, etc. will be provided, and each boat must have seconds who accept responsibility for the welfare of their paddler/s. Paddlers will be required to sign the undermentioned indemnity, while seconds will be required to sign the undermentioned undertaking and indemnity.
9.2 Under no circumstance will seconds will be permitted to drive cars, motor-bikes or quad bikes on the private farm roads.
- Paddlers Indemnity
We, the undersigned:-
10.1 Acknowledge that we have read the above rules and undertake to abide by them.
10.2 Assume all risks of participation with full knowledge of these rules and the physical demands involved.
10.3. Accept that we are participating entirely at our own risk.
10.4 Release and discharge the event organisers, race officials and sponsors from all claims for death, injuries, damage or property loss we may suffer arising out of our participation in the event.
10.5 Undertake to withdraw from the event if we do not reach Finger Neck, Inanda Dam wall, Pump House Weir within the time stipulated in rule 7.5, or if instructed to do so by the safety team / organisers.

- Second’s undertaking

11.2 Assume responsibility for assessing the paddlers’ condition and ability to continue with the event.
11.3 Undertake to withdraw the paddler/s from the event if they are not in a condition to continue.
- Undertake to transport the paddler/s out of the valley if they withdraw.
- Undertake that I am participating as a second entirely at my own risk and release and discharge the event organizers, race officials and sponsors from all claims for death, injuries, damage to property or any other loss which I may suffer or sustain during the event.
