THE DABULAMANZI TWO DAY LIEBENBERGSVLEI PRE-FISH EXTRAVAGANZA
20 & 21 SEPTEMBER 2014 – 3 WEEKS BEFORE FISH
DAY 1 – REITZ TO TWEELING (THE NORMAL GAUTENG MIXED DOUBLES ROUTE +/- 27KM)
DAY 2 – TWEELING TO FRANKFORT (MORE OF THE SAME +/- 30KM’S WITH A RUMOURED 7 RAPIDS TO WET YOUR SPASHY)
This combined distance of about 57km of paddling over two days, in a clean, fast flowing “B GRADE” river, a mere two and a quarter hours’ drive from the heart of the Northern Suburbs of Jo’burg, offers paddlers TWO EASY POINTS FOR FISH (a point for each day) for those looking to qualify, as well as some “getting the feeling of the river” and training for “The Racing Snakes”.
NO – it is not too much distance to paddle this close to Fish. The Liebenbergsvlei is an artificial river, sourcing Gauteng’s water from the Katze Dam down to the Vaal, and for this reason flows at an unprecedented speed of around 8km per hour. That means that if you bobble down the river at a mere 10km per hour, you will be covering the first day race distance in 2 hours FLAT. Hold on to your Pants.

Each day of the race will count as a Qualification Point towards your A Grade River Grading. If you can only paddle one of the two days, you will get your point! You may opt to only paddle one of the two days – or both. The choice is YOURS.
ACCOMMODATION
The area sports a smorgasbord of accommodation options for the discerning traveler so contact the local tourist bureau, hop on Google, or call in some favours to your long lost second cousin who still farms in the Freestate.
However, we have secured basic accommodation near Tweeling as follows:
STABLES – consists of 9 rooms and sleeps 6 to 8 people per room. It provides ablutions, a solid bed and matress – take your own bedding/linen – self-catering – R150 per person per night. You must be willing to share the room unless you and your choms book a whole room.
Please email Peter on phpotg[at]gmail.com and STATE THAT YOU ARE A PADDLER!!
CAMPING – if you have a tent, a camper van or even better a caravan, you can park it on the lawn and chill there too. Enquire with Peter.
(The race organisers have booked accommodation at the same venue for the marshalls, time keepers and general admin people.)
