FEEDBACK – FRIDAY NIGHT 29 SEPTEMBER – THE ERK PRE FISH NIGHT RACE
Apologies for late race report (race results not received).
The ERK Pre Fish Nite race which took place on Friday 29 September 2017 was also used to identify suitable Gauteng paddlers team selection, for the SA K2 River Championships race at HANSA Fish which took place this past weekend 6 / 7 October. With 28 K2’s and 9 K1 as well as a couple of K3 it was a festive affair although the race was 20km, a little longer than expected and the air was chilly despite the hot days.
The winning K2 was SCARC’s Siseko Ntondini with international visiting paddler Kiko Verga in 1:29 minutes followed by the Under 23 SCARC team of Siyabonga Tyiki and Thando Ngamlana in 1:30, with the third place podium K2 going to Alex Roberts and Wayne Jacobs (DABS) as first Sub Veterans in 1:31.
The winning female combination from ACD brought in Esti Van Tonder with Kayla De Beer in 1:46! ( fresh from World Sprints in Czech land )
Michael-John Robb and Alistair Jackson (Dabs) were the official senior 2nd place podium finishers, in 4th overall and in a time of 1:35, and the Sub Master Centurion team came in one second later brought in Theo Smit and Wally Fisher. The 3rd place “Senior” category finishers were Roy Clegg and Richard Cele (VIC) in 1:36.
The first Under 18 junior team finished in 1:39 – Sowetans Sibusiso Chwayi and Sinenhlanhla Ludidi, and the first Mixed Double, who were also the winning Veteran pair, from Watuni, finished in 1:41 – Kobus and Caroline Filmalter.
The first finishing K1 paddler was Katiso Hlahatsi (VLC) in 1:41 as the 12th boat overall.
An Under 16 team with Dabs/Sow combination of Bambo Fanteni and Benjamin Mntonintshi finished in 1:46 as the 13th K2. The K3 winners were Carlo Natali, Clive Evans / Nigel Harvey in 1:52 as first Masters, while a young Under 14 team also finished with Centurion’s Sean and Eben van der Westhuizen in 2:14, and it was the Grand Master team of Keith Beeston and John Rowan (JCC/ERK) who brought up the rear guard – finishing in 2:16!
Well done to all who participated and thanks to ERK for putting on the pre Fish Training event which also served for team selections for the SA K2 River Champs!
Best Regards
