EUROSTEEL MCGREGOR SERIES 4 AND 8KM RACE REPORT – 10 JUNE 2017

 

FEEDBACK: EUROSTEEL MCGREGOR 4KM RACE / EMMARENTIA DAM – 10 JUNE 2017 – 4km

The first in the series of McGregor /Eurosteel races took place at Dabulamanzi on 10 June, on a chilly morning.  The races consisted of an 8km course, as well as a 4km course.

Nicolaas Swart Under 12 was the first finisher in 27 minutes and 6 seconds, with Theo Dreyer in 2nd place, in 27:22, and a female double U 14 combination from SCARC took 3rd place – Tinyiko Mahwayi and Thembelihle Jokozela in 28 minutes 27 seconds!

The 2nd and 3rd K1 lady finishers were next in 29 minutes and 4 seconds plus a few microseconds! bringing in Dabs’ Caroline Power (SV), and Asanda Ndlovu (SOW) followed by another double lady combination – Stephanie Burtenshaw and Gina Bergh,

Under 18 Likkewaan paddler Timothy Sekhoto finished in 30 seconds, while Chad Andrews (Dabs) brought in the first SUP in 31 minutes as did Peter Geach, and Meyer Steyn as first SSub Grand Master and first Grand Master in 43 minutes.

Well done to all – young and old, and ladies, who participated and finished in the winter chill!!

FEEDBACK: EUROSTEEL MCGREGOR 8KM RACE / EMMARENTIA DAM – 10 JUNE 2017

The first in the series of McGregor /Eurosteel races took place at Dabulamanzi on 10 June, on a chilly winter morning after the epic freeze in the Cape, and was well supported and enjoyed with fire and hot drinks / foods available in the clubhouse.  Bridgitte Hartley as well as a number of other well known high profile racers from KZN also participated which added to the enjoyment of the event.

The winning boat brought in Michael Arthur and Wayne Jacobs (Dabs) in 35 minutes, 24 seconds while the next boat was only 1 second later reflecting the extremely close competitiveness of the racers, bringing in KZN pair Clinton Cook and Thomas Lovemore.  An Under 18 KZN combination were the third finishers with Hamish Lovemore and Callam Davis in 36.18, while Hank Mcgregor partnered with Matthew Eckhart were the 4th finishers 20 seconds later….

The winning Sub Veterans were Dabs’ Riccardo Talevi and Alex Roberts in 38 minutes, while Under 16 Zanenhlanhla Mbala and Wongama Makhasi  finished as first Under 16 in 39 minutes.  Another SCARC paddler, Siyabonga Tyiki finished as the first Under 23 and 1st K1 in 40 minutes, while the first Mixed Double as well as Sub Master finishers 2 seconds later brought in the Dabs combination of Sean and Sarah Evans.

Well done to the lady finishers – Morgan Ziervogel, current GCU Lady champ of the year, with KZN partner Kerry Segal, also Under 23,   who finished in 40 minutes 11 seconds….

The first K3, a Veteran team from EC and Dabs, finished the race in 41:59 with Haydn Holmes, Chris Murray and Nigel Harvey, and young St Davids school boy Finlay Leask finished as the first Under 14 finisher in 43:36 followed 6 seconds later by the winning Master finisher from Dabs – Andrew Cooper.

 

The Great Grand Master winner who braved the cold was Frank Dabrowski (Dabs), finishing in 46:07, while the Grand Master winners were Dave Drummond and Graham Holm in 46.15 (Dabs).   David Browne (Dabs) was the first Sub Grand Master finisher in 51:27.

 

Two more ladies boats also finished the race being Michelle Haskins and Gella Thomas (Dabs) in 53:03 as well as Minnie Kretzchmar as a GM (all Dabs ladies) in 54:02.

 

Well done to the final finisher, a young Under Centurion paddler who crossed the finish line in 1 hour 4 minutes – Sean van der Westhuizen!
