GAUTENGERS AT THE SA SCHOOL SPRINT KAYAKING CHAMPIONSHIPS 6 -8 APRIL 2018 – AT ROODEPLAAT DAM

The final results have been posted on the GCU Website, while photos have also been posted on Facebook/GautengCanoeUnion……for all to enjoy.

This well supported interprovincial interschool competition has always been a great highlight in the canoeing racing world…. the start of the talent for our sport’s future…. where the future Olympians are planted….. SPRINTING is the Olympic discipline and should be highly respected!

The three days of racing saw fantastic weather, with the water as smooth as glass and the only half hearted gusts of wind and a few drops of rain landed on the very last race of the last day – Gauteng did well on the weather front at least!  Organisation was fantastic thanks to the Academy of Canoe Development and the Gauteng organiser – Jodie Dreyer – a fantastic job -thanks to all who assisted – it went well, it looked professional – it was a success!!

Let me know if I have misinterpreted / misread or made any errors on the list below as it can be confusing when provinces are not identified, just school names…!

The Schools who achieved on the Schools Standings log included the following:

Boys High Schools:

3rd place St Davids Marist Inanda  with 35.5 points….and although 4th place shows Gustav Preller Laerskool, I’m not sure that it should be listed with the Boys High Schools – this may be an error….for the one point earned by David Brown!!

Co-Ed High Schools:

Parys Hoerskool won this category with 470.5 points, with DelaSalle in 2nd with 182 points…..

Girls High Schools was won by Parktown High School for Girls with 150 points,

Junior Boys Schools was won by St Davids Marist Inanda, with The Ridge in 2nd place…

Junior Co-Ed Schools was won by Parys Laerskool with 158 points….

The Junior Girls Schools was won by Rustenburg Girls junior with 16 points!!

SO: the schools in Gauteng flew the flag proudly!!

The first 3 paddlers in the Victor / Victrix Ludorum points recognition are listed below – well done to them all….. while the school points are accumulated by weight of numbers, these juniors achieved well to be recognised as the top 3 paddlers in their age groups!

Under 8 Guppy Boys – 2nd and 3rd Wian Prinsloo Parys Laerskool (LIK) and Josehua Friedericksen (St Davids Marist Primary) Dabs…..  there were no Under 8 guppy girls competing.

Under 10 Guppy Girls only two girls participated, with Jenna Lee (Rustenburg) winning the Victrix Ludorum !

Under 10 Guppy Boys winners were Jess Webber, Matthew Wilson and Luke Wilson from St Davids Marist College Primary – Dabs paddlers.

Under 12 Guppy Girls saw  Denise Stoltz from Parys Laerskool (LIK) win the 2nd place position and I’m not sure about La Rochelle if it is a Gauteng school or not with Whitney Appolis in 3rd place…?

Under 12 Guppy Boys won by Lyton Oelofse – Parys Laerskool, (LIK)  with Theo Dreyer in 3rd place (St Davids) (Dabs).

Under 14 Girls 2nd place winner was Jo-Ane Prinsloo (Parys Hoerskool) (LIK) while in the
