HENLEY WEIR BRIDGE REMOVED – POTENTIAL DANGER IN FAST CURRENT / FLOODING

PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE OVER HENLEY WEIR – GONE

The pedestrian bridge over Henley Weir has been removed, resulting in a completely flat type of bridge across the river – our landmarks are gone….

With low water levels it is still possible to paddle hard onto the flat concrete plates and park but there may be some concern once the river gets to flood level as there are no pillars to park against and stop us from going right over the weir.

The danger is the current pulling towards the blocked bridge pipes on the far left as always at this stage and when parking on the flat slabs please make sure the back paddler in K2/K3 is securely parked on the concrete slabs and not left dangling off the edge in case of possible capsize / swim with the current pulling the swimmer under the bridge on left as this is potentially extremely dangerous.

The second concrete slab from the left, is slightly LOWER than the other slabs / has sunken, making a decent SLIPWAY to paddle onto the concrete – but its difficult to see on the approach, from the water.

I have put a few rubble bricks in a line to demarcate the best portage which would be JUST RIGHT OF THE RUBBLE BRICKS however not sure if pedestrians or fishermen may remove them for any reason.
