WINTERTON SPAR TUGELA 20 CANOE RACE: 8 and 9 AUGUST 2014
1. Description of race
This two day river race will take place on two stretches of the upper Tugela River. This race is through gently undulating farm lands with low population density. There is one weir and a number of small rapids but the race is relatively safe and enjoyable for beginners and relatively experienced paddlers alike. Provision is also made for a number of viewing spots for spectators and seconds. The race will start at 10h00 on Saturday and 8h00 on Sunday [Please note start times]. Both days are graded “C”. You must enter for for both days and will only qualify for prizes if you race on both Saturday and Sunday. There are generous money prizes for a number of categories. Emphasis will be placed on youth.
The first day is from below Driel Weir near Bergville to Trevor Woods Farm. Total distance is 24 km.
The second day starts below Spioenkop Dam and ends 20 km downstream.
2. Accommodation
There is free camping at the Winterton Country Club on Friday, 7 August 2015, Saturday 8 August 2009 and Sunday 9 August 2015. Monday is a holiday and so you are welcome to stay over on Sunday night.You need not reserve camping sites and there are ablutions available.

There will be breakfast and coffee available for sale at the start of all days so please come right to the start and enjoy this facility. Food and refreshments are available for sale at the finish of each day.
Saturday night is festive at the Winterton Country Club. A party usually ensues thereafter.
6. Lucky Draw
A large number of lucky draw prizes will be available. There is a canoe to be won. The lucky draw prizes will be drawn after prize giving. You need to be present to be eligible.
