GAUTENGERS ACHIEVEMENTS /  FEEDBACK  

Congratulations to Hank McGregor from KZN who won the race as top K1 finisher of the +- 31 km efficiently in a time of 1 hour 55 minutes 28 seconds as first finishing Veteran, with the Top Gauteng finisher Clinton Cook (Dabs) who crossed the finish line in 1:57:15 seconds……..  The 3rd finisher was Wayne Jacobs (Dabs) 1 second later, and an impressive Under 18 (Academy) Sam Butcher crossed the finish line next as the 4th racer across the line 4 seconds later in 1:57:20…….

Well done to the female paddlers who took up the challenge to represent the province in the various age category teams – listed below…..  – while Christie Mackenzie paddles for Varsity College registered in KNCU, she is resident in Gauteng and we are in any event proud to name her the first finishing lady at the race, as 32nd K1 finisher, and 11th Under 23.  Tabitha Hulett (ACA) finished well in 2:33 in the Under 23 age category and  other Gauteng Lady finishers who successfully finished the race and may be considered for the female age category teams include Michelle Haskins, Karen Field, and Caroline Henderson (Dabs) in the Master, Veteran and Great Grand Master categories, as well as Sylvia Nel (LIK) in SGM age group.

 

Liam Stewart from the East Rand, finished as the 2nd Under 23 paddler in 1:58:24 – 7th finisher  (Dabs)- and the first K2 finishers in this SA K1 champs river race brought in the second Sub veterans 15 seconds later with Riccardo Talevi and Grant Ahlschlager (Dabs).

Michael Stewart (ERK) finished as first Master age category in 2:02 and the 3rd Sub Veteran finisher was Michael-John Robb (DABS) finishing in 2:03.

The first finishing K3 on the day brought in Kelvin and Jordan Byres, with Mark Garden (Dabs) in 2:04.

More age category K1 finishers who will undoubtedly be recognised for the SA K1 team at the Interprovincial events, include Gustav Radloff (CCC),  2nd Master age finisher, with Wally Fisher finishing as 3rd Master (CCC) in 2:10.  Matthew Ballenden  (Dabs) will be recognised as first Sub Master finisher in 2:13, while  Sheldon Baker (Dabs) as 2nd Sub master age category in 2:13, with Mark Schroeder finishing as 3rd Sub Master in 2;17 – and inbetween –  Malcolm Stothard (Dabs) earns recognition as the 3rd finishing Sub Grand master age category in 2 :16.

An impressive finish for Theo Smith as First GGM (CCC) in 2:17 followed by a SCARC Under 23 youngster finishing in 2:18 – New name in our river racing categories and welcome – Sikhanyisele Dededa!

Ronald Pronk (CCC) also made the cut of top 3 age category finishers as 2nd GM in 2:20, with Lloyde Hanson (Dabs) finishing as 3rd GM in 2:29.

Well done to all finishers and especially those in the top 3 per age group – up for selection to the team !

A super race, well organised and much fun!! and luckily the unpredictable weather held!!
